Where do I start with Marketing?

If you’re in business, you know that you need to promote your company and you need to market yourself. But what exactly IS marketing?

Most people think marketing is.

1. Sales ~ because selling is all around us and it’s the first contact that many people have with the ‘marketing process’.

2. Social Media ~ because everyone is on it every day and they’re selling all kinds of things.

3. Advertising ~ because advertising is what you see every day all around you. We’re bombarded by adverts

Did you know that recent research has shown that on average each person sees between 6,000 to 10,000 ads every single day! That’s some number! And with that kind of competition, you can see how difficult it is to REALLY stand out. That’s why it’s essential to have good marketing.

But where do you start?

A good place is to know WHAT marketing isn't. In my latest video I talk a little more about the topic!

The fact is that Advertising, sales, and social media are the end result of a long marketing process.

Most people think marketing is sales. Marketing is not sales. Because sales and advertising is all around us. Everyone thinks it is. It is the first contact many people come into. They see an advert. They think Okay. That's marketing. That's promotion.

Marketing and sales are different things. They produce different outcomes. Sales is literally all about getting sales. Marketing is the process that helps you get towards sales and channels and funnels and gets all your content in front of your audience preparing them for the sales process.

The second thing people think is that marketing social media. Social media. It's everywhere these days. I spend my life doing it. I'm sure you do as well. But marketing is not social media. Social media is part of the marketing process. It's what we call a channel to market. It's just one route you can go through to get your products and services in front of your audience.

There are marketing tactics. There's a marketing strategy. You put them together. It involves building the word, building your brand, talking about your business, getting the word out.
